About Paul

An award winning podcaster with 35'000 followers across platforms, degrees in communications and an expertise in media, story telling and online connection, I'm uniquely placed to bring commentary online about the world around us and the way media shapes how we connect and communicate.
Starting out writing for local Community news, and running my high school's radio station, I have since gone on to write for Stuff as a regular columnist along with guest spots in the NZ Herald, NBR, Nexus and more. Before moving to Auckland, I hosted a regular Saturday morning political show on Hamilton's FreeFM and one of their Breakfast show spots each week. I've interviewed a wide range of public figures, from Sir Bill English to Colin Craig, from 4 of the classic Doctor Who actors to legendary Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy. My work has been used for NCEA English exams, voting guides and tertiary education tools amongst many other places. And now I make short videos and podcasts on the internet focusing on local politics, and media influence in an age of alternative facts, disinformation and Prime Ministerial Tik Toks.

Content Philosophy

It's pretty simple - it's about letting the truth ruin the stories we get told all the time. When it comes to the world we live in, we're surrounded by a constant stream of media, news, views, opinions, and spin - sometimes all mixed up to make it harder to see the truth of the information we're presented. The aim behind Paul... The Other One content is to simplify complex issues and explain the realities of situations based on facts, data, research and evidence.
